Advance Participants to the Final

This is the end-to-end flow from a finished prelim to a run final. If you only read one page in this section, read this one.

The flow

1. Every judge has submitted in the prelim. You can see this in the Judge Submission Progress card.
2. Calculate the prelim. The ranking fills in and the finalist and alternate slots are auto-selected from the target counts.
3. Review the selection. Override any row with the checkboxes if you need to (see Select finalists and alternates).
4. Publish the prelim (optional but common). This puts the ranking on the public page.
5. Create the final competition if you have not already (Create a competition). Set the stage to FINAL, and match the division and judging mode of the prelim.
6. Put the finalists and alternates into the final's participant list. Open the final: Manage →, then Import Assigned Participants to copy the event's assignments into the grid, or work the list by hand.
7. Add judges to the final (Add judges). Set a head judge for the final if it differs from the prelim's.
8. Generate the final's scoresheet PDF so each judge gets their QR code (Scoresheet PDF).
9. Run the final. Judges submit their placements, the ranking is computed, and you publish. See Run finals.

A typical event

• C1 · Mixed Prelims (12 couples, Regular) produces 6 finalist couples and 1 alternate couple.
• C2 · Individual Prelims (18 singles, Ranked maybes) produces 6 finalists and 2 alternates.
• C3 · Individual Finals (the 6 + 2 from C2) are ranked 1 to 8 by the final judges.

The final's ranking is what you publish as the champion result.

Common mistakes

• Creating the final before the prelim has finished. The final's participant list is not known until the prelim ranking is in. Create the final after that happens.
• Using the wrong prelim's finalists. If two prelims feed into finals (for example, Individual and Mixed), each has its own finalist list. Do not mix them.
• Forgetting the alternates. If your final format uses alternates, they need to be in the final's participant list too, not only in the prelim's selection.
• Linking a final as a "Linked Prelim." The Linked Prelim control only pairs two prelim competitions for a shared scoresheet; a final is not a valid choice there. See Link two prelims.
